BLBA Company Visit “Paul Wurth India”, August 31, 2010, 4.30 pm
Paul Wurth: A brief company history
The year 1870 saw the birth of the Paul Wurth Company as a boiler making facility, known to the townsfolk by the name “Kesselfabrek”. In 1891 the business was handed over to Paul Wurth, a young engineer, whose pioneering spirit deeply marked the company’s history.
Initially, the firm specialized in metal erection works, especially the construction of metal bridges and blast furnace shells.
In 1951 Paul Wurth collaborated with a British steel firm to acquire licenses needed to supply complete blast furnaces with all the accessories. This was the turning point.
From this time on Paul Wurth had become an international market leader to the iron making industry. It created subsidiaries and branches, first in Brazil in 1977, followed by Canada and the U.S.
Today the Group has 18 offices in all main steelmaking regions of the world.
In 1993 Paul Wurth India Pvt Ltd was incorporated as the first Asian subsidiary of the Group. With a team of some 80 experts, Paul Wurth India pursues a policy of close contact with the most eminent Indian Steel producers. Relying on own engineering capabilities and local supplies, Paul Wurth India operates in a very dynamic market and is presently involved, with other Group entities, in a number of ambitious blast furnace construction projects.
Paul Wurth India is giving an exclusive opportunity to share their Indian story and experiences with other BLBA members. It will be an interesting and interactive session to share the cultural barriers and challenges that Belgian and Luxembourg companies could face while being in India.
